    The 45-year-old autorickshaw driver from Choolaimedu, whose body was recovered near a railway track in Guindy giving rise to suspicion that it was a case of murder, turned out to be a suicide.

    A CCTV footage showed the man crossing the track to jump in front of a speeding train. Police said the reason behind his extreme action is not immediately known. The deceased, Panneerselvam of Namachivayapuram in Choolaimedu, did not return home after stepping out of his house on Wednesday afternoon. His wife lodged a complaint at Choolaimedu police station on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, the Railway Police found him dead near the railway tracks in Guindy, with bruises and cut marks all over the body. After examining the body, police initially believed that he could have been hacked to death and informed Guindy police. They retrieved the body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Panneerselvam was into betting in horse racing. However, after checking the CCTV footage, police said on Friday that it was case of suicide. Panneerselvam is survived by his wife and two children.
