     In a press release, NCB South Zone Director A Bruno said that the official team, based on an anonymous information received from Chennai, intercepted an SUV bearing fake TN registration number that was coming from Andhra Pradesh near Karanodai toll plaza at Red Hills on Friday morning.


    While checking the vehicle, the officials reportedly found three members inside along with a few travel bags that had ganja packets weighing 305 kg of ganja concealed inside them.


    Two of the passengers were aged 40 years and the third person was 33 years old. While the latter resides in Madurai, the other two hail from Theni district. The fourth member who was the receiver of the drug, was aged 58 years and resides in Chennai.


    During interrogation, he stated that he was waiting on the roadside on his motorcycle for his consignment to be delivered and added that he was into handing over the contraband to the drug peddlers in his area. All the four were apprehended and the vehicles were seized.


    The drug was sourced from Visakhapatnam and destined to reach Sri Lanka via Madurai after delivering some quantity in Chennai, accordingto sources. Further investigationis under way.


    Couple held for ganjapeddling

    Meanwhile, the police seized 26 kilograms of ganja from a couple in the outskirts of Coimbatore on Thursday.


    According to police, a police team was involved in a vehicle check when they intercepted a moped driven by Akshaya Das (40), a native of Odisha. A check revealed that he was in possession of three kilograms of ganja. Following this, police carried out a search at his home and found 23 kg of ganja.


    Police said that Das, along with his wife Bijoy Lakshmi Das (30), had smuggled the contraband from Andhra and supplied them to customers. Following their arrest, thepolice are investigating to crack down on theirentire network.
