Two college students drown in sea off Neelankarai
A visit to the Palavakkam beach on a Sunday turned fatal for two college students, as they drowned while swimming in the sea. The youth were identified as Akash (19) and Jagan (19) of Taramani, friends who were students of different colleges. On Sunday afternoon, the duo along with three other friends reached Palavakkam beach.

As they were swimming, one of them identified as Awaz was about to drown. Seeing this, Akash and Jagan rushed to his rescue. Though Awaz managed to escape, the other two were sucked in by a giant wave. The others part of the gang, along with local fishermen who rushed to their rescue, managed to drag Jagan to the shore. The 108 ambulance service was alerted.
However, the emergency medical technician part of the ambulance crew who rushed to the spot confirmed that Jagan was dead. On information, Neelankarai police retrieved his body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem examination. A few hours later, Akash’s body, too, washed ashore near Neelankarai. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
