The arrested duo was identified as R Kamesh (22) of Indira Nagar in St Thomas Mount and J Srinath (21) of Alandur. According to police, they were supplying the drug by advertising them as memory power tablets. For the past three months, school students in St Thomas Mount and surrounding areas got money from their parents and bought tablets believing it would boost their memory power. Police added that the duo also sold powdered ganja, instructing to drink it by mixing with water so that their memory power would be increased.

After a few parents noticed the strange behaviour of their wards, the news reached to the attention of the St Thomas Mount police. Sources said policemen in plainclothes tried to buy the tablets and powder from the duo, but were told that it was meant only for students. The police then asked two schoolboys to buy the tablets and the powder from the duo. After testing the tablet, they confirmed that it was not a memory-booster, but a drug called Tidol that affects the nerves in case of overdose. They also confirmed that the powder was ganja. On Friday morning, police seized 48 tablets and packets of powdered ganja along with four SIM cards and Rs 2,500. Both of them were remanded in judicial custody.
