Panic as 3 snakes caught on Secretariat campus in 2 days
Panic spread among the Secretariat staff on Thursday when a cobra was spotted in Namakkal Kavingar building, located on the Secretariat campus.

The snake was the second to be caught in the last two days and the third to be spotted inside the Secretariat campus in the last two days.
According to police sources, the snake was spotted by one of the office assistants of the Agriculture Department, in the first floor of the Namakkal Kavingar building. Soon after spotting the slithery creature, the police personnel posted for security at the Namakkal Kavingar building were alerted and they in turn alerted the higher officials.
The State Fire and Rescue Service personnel were alerted and they immediately rushed to the spot. Following a brief struggle, the cobra measuring about 3 feet was caught and handed over to the Forest Department.
On Wednesday, a similar snake was caught near the fourth gate of the main building of the Secretariat. Since Wednesday was a government holiday, the Secretariat campus was deserted and there was not much panic but on Thursday the Secretariat was at its usual strength and so the snake created panic.
Meanwhile, another small snake was also spotted near the exit gate of the Secretariat on Thursday morning but before alerting the Fire and Rescue personnel, it went into the moat of the Fort St. George and disappeared.
Police sources also said that the area behind the Army quarters is dense and filled with bushes and usually snakes are spotted near the bushes but of late the snakes have reached till the Secretariat main building which indicates that their number has gone up.
