Woman, step dad detained after child’s death

Yazhini was the daughter of Bhavani (21) from her first marriage.

On Sunday night, Bhavani and her second husband Asif (24) brought Yazhini to a private hospital in Red Hills claiming that she was unwell. But, the doctors found out that Yazhini was already dead.

Meanwhile, the information reached Bhavani’s first husband and Yazhini’s father Ramesh (24), who lives in Vyasarpadi. He alerted the police control room, alleging that his daughter was beaten to death. On information, Puzhal inspector Thangadurai rushed to the couple’s house and retrieved Yazhini’s body before sending it to Government Stanley Hospital for autopsy.

As the preliminary report revealed that there were injury marks on Yazhini’s forehead, chest and abdomen, police registered a case of suspicious death and detained the couple for interrogation.

Bhavani and her first husband Ramesh had married about four years ago after being in a relationship. He is into marriage decoration. Apart from Yazhini, the couple also has a one-year-old son. Bhavani separated from him only four months ago, and married Asif of Kodungaiyur. They moved to a rented premise at Kavankarai in Puzhal.

When contacted, Puzhal Assistant Commissioner Ravi said that they are awaiting the final autopsy report for further investigation.
