Over 1,200 Bethel Nagar residents seek land patta
More than 1,200 residents of Bethel Nagar in Injambakkam approached the Chennai Collector on Monday and submitted a petition seeking free land patta for their families.

Chennai
Narayanan, secretary of the Bethel Nagar Protection Federation said hundreds of families have been residing at the meichal (grazing) poramboke in Bethel Nagar for more than 25 years, but have not been given land patta. He added that there were more than 3,000 families residing in Bethel Nagar, most of whom are daily wage earners.
“Recently, the State government passed a government order for giving patta for poramboke land even if there is problem in the land. Based on the GO, we demanded the district administration to allot patta for us,” he told DT Next.
The district officials directed them to get the nature of the land converted from meichal poramboke to natham poramboke for easier allotment of patta. Based on the advice from officials, the residents have decided to meet Revenue Minister RB Udhayakumar to get patta.
