Man dies after suicide bid, girlfriend suffers burns
Distraught over failed affairs, two men committed suicide in separate incidents in the city. In another case, a woman killed herself two days before she was supposed to get engaged.

A 26-year-old man, Moideen of Vadapalani, set himself ablaze outside his girlfriend’s house at Ernavur on Friday night. The woman, Malathi, who ran to his rescue, also suffered burns and is under treatment at a city hospital.
Police said that the two had developed a relationship when they were working in a private firm. However, the girl’s parents refused to accept the wedding proposal. On Friday, he went to her house to try to convince his girlfriend. Suddenly, he poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze in front of her house.
Both were rescued and sent to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, where Moideen succumbed to injuries, while Malathi survived with 40 per cent burns. Ennore police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.
In another incident, 29-year-old woman committed suicide in Koyambedu on Friday night two days before her wedding engagement. The deceased was identified as Priyanka, a resident of Chinmaya Nagar.
On Friday night, Priyanka did not step out her room for a long time. When her father Ramakrishnan broke open the door, he found her body hanging from the ceiling. Koyambedu police sent her body for post-mortem examination to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Priyanka was not interested in marriage but was forced by her parents. Ramakrishnan has been detained for interrogation. Further investigation is on.
Meanwhile, a 26-year-old man was found hanging in his rented premises in Virugambakkam in the wee hours of Saturday. The deceased, B Iqbal of Virugambakkam, was addicted to liquor after a relationship break-up and stopped going to work. His roommates reached the room after work around 4.30 am found Iqbal hanging from the ceiling. On information, Virugambakkam police retrieved his body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Further inquiry is on.
