The police recovered stolen chairs, two fans and three tube lights from Vinod. The Taramani police, who investigated the case based on a complaint from traffic cops, arrested and remanded him in judicial custody.

Vinod told the police that he committed the theft because he needed the items in his house. “I never had those items in the house, so I decided to steal the items,” he reportedly told the police.

On Monday, on the day of Vinayaka Chaturthi he stole electric appliances and furniture from the police booth, loaded the items in a vehicle and escaped from the spot.

The traffic policemen, who reached the booth around 6 pm, noticed that the booth was empty.

The police managed to track the vehicle and suspect after browsing through the CCTV footage taken from the location.
