Chennai
“There is a High Court order banning banners in the city. If the Court quashes the ban, the public and members of political parties should follow the norms already set by the Chennai Corporation,” G Prakash, Commissioner, Chennai Corporation, said in a statement.
He also added that the public should print their banners only at shops which are registered with the civic body and should print details of the printers at the bottom. Also, the civic body has already fixed the dimensions of the banners based on the road width. “Persons who erect the banners without permission will have to face one-year imprisonment and Rs 5,000 penalty for each banner.”
The statement added the public should avail no-objection certificates from the local police station two days prior to erecting the banners. NOCs from the building owners are a must. There should be at least a 10-metre interval between two banners.
