MTC to operate special services for church festival
The Metropolitan Transport Corporation will operate special buses services to Besant Nagar to help people visit the annual Annai Velankanni Church festival.

An official release said 40 special buses would be operated on August 29, September 7 and 8. “We operate special buses for the festival every year,” it said.
The 40 buses are scheduled to make 12 trips each. The release said that 10 buses would be operated in the route number 29C between Perambur and Besant Nagar while seven buses would ply on the route no 47 between Villivakkam and Besant Nagar. The six buses would be operated in the route numbers 23C (from Aynavaram) and 5E (Vadapalani) while five buses will ply on 23C Ext (from Villivakkam).
Meanwhile, Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar handed over a cheque of Rs 3 lakh each to family members of the two Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) employees who died in an accident at Vadapalani depot on July 28. The cheque was given on behalf of the transport department.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh to each of the deceased family. Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 will be given to for those suffering from grievous and minor injuries respectively, said an official release.
