According to a Corporation official, the civic body has smart classrooms in which the students are provided with tablets and Wi-Fi connection. The civic body has been conducting online coaching classes for NEET exam at Chennai Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School in Saidapet on a pilot basis. It has also roped in an NGO to conduct the classes. The civic body intends to expand the classes if it goes well.

“In addition to the laptops issued by the government, we have given tablets in a few schools. Online coaching will be given by conducting mock exams, which the students can attend online. This is an additional facility given to the Corporation school students apart from government-run coaching centres,” the official added.

The State government has also announced NEET coaching centres in the State for students of government and government-aided schools. Chennai has 12 NEET weekend coaching centres, of which four are now functional. Weekend coaching classes in these four schools, including Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School on MH Road, have been functioning for more than a week. The centres have been opened exclusively for the students belonging to minority communities.

During the previous year, the Corporation, in addition to the coaching classes run by the State School Education Department, had conducted classes in two Chennai Corporation schools with hostel facilities.

It is learnt that, of the 12 centres, the School Education Department is searching for the schools to house the eight remaining coaching centres. The civic body has also requested the ScEool education Department to provide four of the eight centres to Chennai Corporation schools, where the students from all the communities would be coached.
