    Easterlies may bring heavy rain next week

    Weathermen have predicted easterlies to bring heavy rains to the city and other areas in the coming week. Meanwhile, southern Tamil Nadu and interior parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Friday itself.

    The Regional Meteorological Centre issued a warning for the fisherman stating that the cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ over the east-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards and it is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours.


    It is likely to move north-northwestwards initially, till November 9 morning, and then re-curve northeastwards towards Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. As Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph are likely to prevail over the central Bay of Bengal, fishermen are advised to not venture into the sea till November 9.


    On Thursday, Tiruppur, Sivagangai, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris received moderate rainfall with Tiruppur receiving the highest rainfall of more than 5 cm. The two weather stations in Chennai recorded a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam, while Meenambakkam recorded 33.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperatures recorded were 25.8 degrees Celsius and 24.7 degrees Celsius at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively.


    Thanjavur, Perambalur, Dindigul, Ariyalur and Salem expected to receive moderate thunderstorm due to cyclonic circulations, heavy rainfall is expected in isolated parts of the State in the next 24 hours up to Sunday. However, other parts of the State might receive rainfall from Monday onwards.


    For the next 24 hours, the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy in the city, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
