Bizman sends wife to US for studies, fakes divorce to remarry
While many would laud Sravankumar Raji, a 35-year-old businessman from T Nagar, for sending his wife to the US for higher studies, his modus operandi, however, turned out to be something else. He obtained a fake divorce certificate, married a second time and was ultimately nabbed by the police.
Chennai
Sravankumar is a resident of Zeenath Enclave, Padmanabhan Street. Police said that he was married to Prasanthi, a native of Andhra Pradesh, in 2010. They have an 8-year-old daughter. In 2016, Prasanthi, 32, left for higher studies in the US leaving the daughter with Sravankumar.
When Prasanthi returned recently after completing her studies, she found that her husband had married again and was living with his second wife and an eight-month-old child. A shocked Prasanthi immediately approached the Teynampet All Women Police Station who registered a case and commenced investigation. Following the complaint, the police picked up Sravankumar and conducted inquiries. During investigation, the police found that he had created a fake divorce certificate and married another woman Radha, 35, from Chennai in 2017.
“The accused had told Radha that he had obtained a divorce from Prasanthi and had even shown her a divorce certificate as proof. Upon checking the certificate, we found that he had created a fake document and managed to convince Radha and her family members,” a police officer said.
Sravankumar had however, told Radha that he had a daughter from the first marriage. “As he had cheated Prasanthi by concealing his second marriage and had created a fake divorce certificate, Sravankumar was arrested,” the officer added. He was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
