Malfunctioning signals disrupt traffic flow on GST Road
Traffic was disrupted on GST Road near Urapakkam on Monday morning since the signal did not function in the junction and there was no traffic police to control the vehicles.
Chennai
On Monday morning it took more than 30 minutes for the people to cross 500 meters in the GST Road in Urapakkam.
Sources said that the traffic signals at the junction malfunctioned a few days ago and on Monday there were no policemen to control the vehicles. Since it was the first day after a long week-end the vehicle flow was high and office goers and students could not reach their destinations on time.
N Kannan, social activist from Urapakkam said, “A few people who came on two-wheelers parked their vehicle on the roadside and began to control the traffic on their own. There were many educational institutions buses stuck in the traffic and the students suffered because of the snarl.”
Commuters said that during the peak hours it is not possible to control the traffic without the traffic signal. They have demanded that since it is one of the important junctions there should be policemen during the peak hours to control the traffic. It took nearly two hours for vehicle flow to become normal.
