Fish prices come down after a month

“In the month of Aadi, the prices of fish were double the normal because people tend to buy fish every weekend. This month, the price will be lower, except on Sundays. Seer fish (vanjiram) is now sold for Rs 650 per kg, horse mackeral (parai) at Rs 330, black pomfret (vaval) at Rs 600 and white at Rs 900. While big red snapper (sankara) is sold at Rs 250 (big) per kg, medium is sold for Rs 200 and small Rs 150. If the demand goes up again, the price will be hiked further,” said Sivalingam, secretary of Thesiya Meenavar Sangam.

“The price of prawns differs every week based on its demand. Flower prawn is now sold at Rs 1,000 (big), Rs 550 (medium) and Rs 400 (medium) and tiger prawn for Rs 1,250.
