Understand people’s choices, LS member advises NIFT students
Young fashion designers who are passing out of the professional institutes in India should be attuned to the sartorial choices of the people so that their work would not only reach a large group, it would also bring in more revenue and profit, opined Lok Sabha member Thamizhachi Thangapandian.

She was addressing the students during the eighth convocation ceremony of the NationalInstitute of Fashion Technology, Chennai, on Friday.
According to her, students should understand the likes and preferences of the masses when it comes to textile and fashion. “Students should not just design the clothing as per their own choices and likes in fashion. If they understand the choices of the people of our State, a larger population can be reached, which will also result in better profit,” she said.
At the function held at the institute here, Minister for Handloom and Textiles OS Manian also addressed the students and later handed over degree certificates to 250 graduates. The two students chosen as NIFT Student of the Year Award and NIFT Extraordinary Service Award were given gold medal and cash award.Ten students were chosenfor NIFT Best Academic Performance, while the students who came first and second in nine courses were also given awards.
