Meanwhile, a police team on patrol intercepted a speeding car near Tiruvanmiyur bus terminus stopped a duo with a car. After they gave contradictory replies, they were taken to police station for interrogation.
The duo reportedly admitted that they stole cars from different parts of the city and sold them after interchanging the number plates and engines. “They targeted the same brand of cars so that it would be easy for them to swap engines. One of them is an expert in opening locked doors, while the other knows how to start the vehicle without keys,” the police said.
Though this is the first time that they were arrested by the city police, further inquiry is on whether they have cases against them in any of the other districts. The duo was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
