Sanitary workers refuse to collect garbage from bins in Laxmi Nagar

Residents of Laxmi Nagar in Manali New Town complain that sanitary workers collect the garbage only once in three days. As a result, the public is forced to dump garbage in common bins, which the civic workers refuse to clear.

“Earlier, they asked us to keep the garbage outside the house for easy segregation of waste. However, they do not collect the waste daily. They come once in three or four days and by that time, the street dogs drag the waste on to the road and we are forced to sweep the road,” said Vijayashree K, who has been living in the area for more than 30 years.

The residents said that the waste strewn across the street becomes a breeding ground for various diseases. If the garbage is not collected, even for a day, the entire street starts stinking.

“I have discussed and complained about the issue to the zonal official twice. He visited the area and questioned the sanitary workers before asking them to collect the garbage and clean the street regularly. However, nothing changed,” said Manikandan E, another resident of Laxmi Nagar.

Speaking to DT Next, Manali New Town zonal officer, Thangaraj said, “We solve such issues as soon as we receive complaints. I visited the place and spoke to the sanitary workers to clear the garbage as soon as possible. We will sort out the problem soon.”
