The police said that Sunny Jain, who was awarded 3.5 years of imprisonment in 2010 by a fast track court, was produced before the George Town magistrate on Wednesday and sent to prison to serve the sentence.

Jain was arrested on January 23 in 2010 after he attacked one Soorajmal with a sharp weapon at the latter’s fancy store on Kasi Chetty Street in Flower Bazaar following a quarrel that erupted between them.

He moved the Madras High Court for conditional bail and escaped to Mumbai with his family. On May 10, 2010, a fast track court awarded him 3.5 years of imprisonment. Recently, a special team headed by Assistant Commissioner S Lakshmanan was formed to nab him. The team received a tip-off that Sunny Jain had reached the city to visit his sister and nabbed him from his friend’s house in Ennore Tsunami Quarters.
