TikTok turns into tutorial platform for these creators from Tamil Nadu
Instead of using the digital medium for conventional singing, dancing, comedy and lip-syncing, these creators from our state are using the platform to teach interesting topics.

Surya, beatboxing
A Tamil rapper and beatboxer from Tiruchy, Surya has been using the social media platform to discover new genres of music and virtually meet other artistes. After seeing him perform, a few followers requested him to start a tutorial for beatboxing and Surya happily obliged to them. “I teach them the basics of beatboxing like how to learn the sounds, put the sounds into a beat pattern, endurance and speed training. I don’t follow any teaching format and my classes can be followed by children and adults as well,” says Surya, who goes by the user name @suryamkr17.
Anto Yesuraj, technology
This youngster makes videos for Tamil audience to learn about technology in their regional language. This easy-to-understand tech videos in Tamil give tips and the latest tech and gadget updates. Based out of Kanniyakumari, Anto has completed his engineering degree in computer science. “I wanted every individual, whoever is interested in technology, to be able to understand it in the easiest possible way. More than YouTube, TikTok has active users and rather than uploading tutorials on YouTube, I decided to do videos on TikTok,” says Anto, who goes by the user name Tamiltechguruji. He goes live on all Saturdays and depending on the followers’ suggestion he uploads videos that discuss topics like security, privacy, and so on.
Subbu Murugan, cooking, DIY art-craft and yoga
This Chennai-based entrepreneur, who goes by the user name @HomeCookingShow, creates easy-to-make recipe videos. “I don’t follow any particular cuisine and teach my followers to make dishes with easily available ingredients,” says Subbu. Apart from this, he also gives tutorials on DIY crafts and yoga asanas through the platform. “I focus on simple stuff like home decor, gift wrapping, greeting cards, etc. I have divided yoga classes for beginners and advanced practitioners. In the coming weeks, I will be starting yoga tutorials depending on various sections of people like pregnant women, asthma patients and those with joint pains,” he tells us.
