    Flower prices come down after 4 days

    Flower prices have come down at Koyembedu wholesale market following four days of Varalakshmi pooja celebration, during which the demand for flowers soared.

    Similarly, vendors at the vegetable market said that there is an increase in the inflow of vegetables this week, after several months, leading to a slight reduction in prices.

    Chennai Koyambedu Malar Podhu Vyabarigal Sangam Secretary S Mookaiya said, “For the last four days, flower prices were higher than usual due to Varalakshmi pooja. It has now come down to normal rates. The wedding season starts in Aavani and festivals like Vinayaka Chathurthi and Krishna Jayanthi is in the upcoming weeks. The prices might increase again then. Until Aadi month is over, there won’t be any hike.


    Now, jasmine is sold at Rs 180-200, jasminum sambac at Rs 100-120, rose for Rs 80-100 and tuberose for Rs 120-150.”


    Meanwhile, Vegetable traders said the price has fallen up to 15-20 per cent. “The price for all vegetable remains the same except tomatoes, peas, and brinjal. Tomato, which costed Rs 40 for a kg, is now sold for Rs 20-25. Compared to last week’s Rs 100-120, peas are now sold at Rs 60-70. The price might vary on Tuesday due to Bakrid,” Koyambedu Wholesale Market Secretary P Sukumar said.


    According to Kai Kani Malar Podhu Nala Sangam Secretary Dhanaseker, there are no changes in the prices of fruits.
