The arrested was identified as Yesupadam from KK Nagar in Chengalpattu. The police said Yesupadam is an LLB dropout in Andhra Pradesh and came to Chengalpattu 15 years ago and introduced himself as an advocate. The police added that Yesupadam used to handle consumer cases mostly.
Jayapaul (72), a building contractor from Tambaram, had some issues with his dealer three years ago and decided to go to court. The police said that a relative of Jayapaul introduced Yesupadam to him and he promised to fight the case in his favour. Yesupadam took money from Jayapaul often but the case did not conclude even after three years. Following that, a few days ago, Jayapaul went to KK Nagar to Yesupadam’s house to ask about the case and demand his money back. But Yesupadam attacked Jayapaul and asked him to get out.
Later, Jayapaul filed a complaint with the Chengalpet Taluk police. The police, after an inquiry, found that Yesupadam had cheated several others but Jayapaul was the only person to file a complaint. The police arrested Yesupadam and remanded him in judicial custody.
