Pondy liquor sale: Locals detain govt bus
Hundreds of people blocked a government bus at Cheyur on Wednesday demanding the arrest of the gang which illegally sold liquor in their village.

The police said Jayaveeran (50) from Keelpattu village in Cheiyur on ECR buy liquor in bulk from Puducherry and sell it in the village. It is reported that several people from other villages also visit Jayaveeran to buy bottles and some would even consume it in the village and create trouble for women especially.
The villagers complained that they have made several complaints to the police. In the absence of any action, the villagers nabbed Jayaveeran while he was selling illegal liquor and handed him over to the police. He was later arrested.
Following his arrest, Jeyaveeran’s sons Kumar (28) and Damodaran (25), along with Munusammy (23), attacked Satish (23), Balakrishnan (21) Loganathan (26) and five others who were believed to have caused their father’s arrest.
On Tuesday evening, the villagers staged a protest demanding the arrest of the attackers. The crowd dispersed only after the police promised to arrest them. As there was no arrest made till Wednesday morning, the villagers gathered again protest and blocked the government bus. The police and Revenue officials convinced them that the three accused will be arrested within 10 days.
