Police nab phone robber within hours in Aminjikarai
The Aminjikarai police nabbed a robber within hours after he snatched a mobile phone from a pedestrian at knifepoint on Friday night.

According to the police, a motorist intercepted Manikandan (30) of PP Garden in Aminjikarai, a private firm employee, when the latter was walking home. He threatened Manikandan at knifepoint to part with his jewels. When Manikandan refused, the motorist attacked him and escaped with his mobile phone. After Manikandan alerted the police control room, a patrol vehicle reached the spot and took Manikandan along to search for the robber. Within a few hours, the suspect was nabbed by the police team. The police said he was spotted waiting in the locality with his two-wheeler.
Investigations revealed that the accused, identified as Mohammed Azim of Aminjikarai, has several robbery cases pending against him at Teynampet, Nazarathpet and Pondy Bazaar police stations. He was remanded in judicial custody on Saturday.
In another incident, an unidentified man snatched an iPhone from a woman techie at Kotturpuram. However, after noticing the police a few metres away, he threw the phone on the ground and escaped from the spot. Kasthuri (26) of Erode, who works in a software firm in Sholinganallur, reached Kotturpuram by MRTS train. As she was walking home, a bike-borne man snatched her phone but dropped it on seeing the police. A hunt has been launched for the suspect with the help of CCTV footage retrieved from thelocality.
