Expect overcast sky, light showers this week, says Met
As Chennai experiences overcast skies, the regional meteorological department predicted light to moderate rainfall in the city. But, majority of the districts are expected to be dry for next 48 hours, said Met officials.

Even as the weather has remained dry this week, the next five days will also see no rains with less likely isolated rains throughout the state. Tamil Nadu has only recorded 92.7 mm of actual chief rainfall against the normal average rainfall of 133 mm of rainfall till July. This is at least 30 percent below normal. However, Chennai received excess of 247.5 mm of seasonal rainfall against the normal average rainfall of 180.8 mm.
For next 48 hours, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy with light rain likely to occur in some isolated areas. The temperatures are expected to spike during the day with maximum and minimum temperatures are to be around 35 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, the maximum temperatures at two weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam was 34.2 degrees Celsius and 34.6 degrees Celsius respectively. The minimum temperatures recorded were 28.1 degree Celsius and 26.5 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively.
Weather blogger Pradeep John also stated that rains in Tamil Nadu will be subdued for next one week to 10 days, while light rains are expected in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai.
