The officials of the planning authority locked and sealed a block inside a gated community as the building owners had reportedly converted the block for commercial purpose by violating the plan approval.
“The building owner had availed planning permission for the building by saying that it would be used as a generator room and maintenance room. However, the ground plus three floors have been rented for commercial purpose. We served notices regarding the violation and ensuing action, but the building owners failed to rectify the mistake,” an official said. The official added that the civic body had sealed around 20 unauthorised buildings in June. Meanwhile, on June 17, CMDA sealed two buildings located on Old Mahabalipuram Road in Sholiganallur and Radial Road near Pallavaram.
According to the planning rules, sealed buildings can only be reopened after getting permission from the government. However, the owners should rectify the violations within the stipulated time. “We are now concentrating on such buildings which were reopened but had failed to rectify the violations,” the official said.
