Family attacked at midnight, robbed of gold, cash at Madurantakam
A four-member gang barged into a house and attacked the inmates with wooden logs and knife before escaping with eight sovereigns, Rs 7,000 in cash and two mobile phones.

After the preliminary investigation, police said that the gang could be from north India as they were not fluent in Tamil.
Srinivasan (38) of Melavallam village in Madurantakam owns a petty shop in the locality. He was living with his wife Jegatha (36), two children, aged 9 and 5, and his 72-year-old father.
Around midnight on Monday, Srinivasan heard someone knocking on the door repeatedly. When he opened it, a gang pushed Srinivasan down and attacked him with wooden logs. On hearing Srinivasan’s cries, his father came out of the room. The gang also attacked him and tied them up.
Then, they threatened Jegatha and the two children at knifepoint and took two mobile phones and cash from the house. They also asked Jegatha to remove eight sovereign jewels she was wearing and when she refused, they attacked her with the knife and snatched them. Then, they left the spot.
On hearing their cries, neighbours rushed to the spot and admitted them to a private hospital andinformed the Madurantakam police.
The police said that the gang members did not speak fluent Tamil and said that they might be from north India. The police have registered a case and areinvestigating.
