Chennai
Around 2.30 am, inspector E Rajeshwari and head constables Selvaraj and Rajasekar, who were on night patrol, noticed a woman in tears, helplessly moving on Konnur High Road and stopped the vehicle.
She reportedly told the inspector that she had been waiting for a 108 ambulance as her daughter Sheela, who was nine months pregnant, went into labour.
As their house in Nammalwarpet is located inside a narrow lane, the 108 ambulance staff reportedly told her they could not enter the locality. The inspector swung into action and rushed to their house in the patrol vehicle.
The officer brought Sheela down from the building and took her to the main road in the patrol vehicle. As she had already alerted ambulance staff, they reached the same spot on time and Sheela was taken to Kilpauk Medical College.
Thirty 30 minutes after Sheela reached the hospital, she delivered a baby girl and both the mother and the infant are said to be doing well. Later, the inspector visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of Sheela and the newborn. Sheela’s family thanked inspector Rajeshwari and after the details of the event spread on WhatsApp, many appreciated the officer’s timely help.
