Stickers to be fixed on buildings with RWH
To keep a track of the buildings that have rainwater harvesting structures, the Greater Chennai Corporation has started to affix coloured stickers at the gates of such buildings.
Chennai
“During inspection, official teams will affix blue colour stickers outside buildings that have functional rainwater harvesting structures. In the case the residents set up rainwater harvesting structures after the inspection, the teams will affix green stickers,” Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said.
The civic body has constituted 200 teams, one for each ward, to check for rainwater harvesting structures in buildings across the city. The teams have been given a task to identify buildings that lack rainwater harvesting structures and implore owners to build them. The target for each team is to create 1,000 new such structures before Northeast monsoon. The teams comprise Chennai Corporation and Metrowater officials.
Meanwhile, a Chennai Corporation press release stated that the teams have inspected more than 1.42 lakh buildings till Saturday and found nearly 78,000 buildings with functional rainwater harvesting structures. “More than 23,000 buildings have harvesting structures, but they need minor renovations. Of the inspected buildings, 41,275 buildings lack those structures,” the release said.
