PEW operations to be streamed live soon

The CCTV Mobile Surveillance System will be soon installed at all the check post vehicles to monitor whether the PEW units were properly undertaking their tasks, including eradication of illicit distillation, transportation, possession and sale of illicit liquor, and preventing smuggling of spurious liquor and also Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFS) that have not paid the Excise duty.

There are 94 PEW units across the State, each headed by an inspector.

As per the plan, outdoor bullet cameras, mobile network video recorders (NVR) and seven-inch display units will be installed in all the patrol vehicles, while a high-end surveillance server, a 55-inch display monitor, online UPS system, network rack, network PoE switch and necessary accessories will be installed in the central location to enable the mobile surveillance system.

It has already asked bidders to submit samples of superior quality through the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Elcot), an optional procurement agency of the State government for procuring IT-related products.

“The server will be able to receive, consolidate, display and retrieve images from the vehicles real-time. The captured images can be live-streamed to the central location and also be recorded in the local mobile NVR. Visuals from the cameras installed in the vehicles can be viewed from the centralised location round-the-clock and monitoring software to be installed in the central server. The captured images will be stored in the server for at least a month for future reference,” said Elcot sources.

The CCTV mobile surveillance will live stream the video to the centralised location through 4G-speed Internet connectivity. “If the internet connectivity is unavailable at the vehicle’s location, the captured images must be recorded in the local mobile NVR kept in the vehicle and sent to central location once connectivity is available. The mobile NVR should be able to save 15 days’ images,” the Elcot sources added.
