New prepaid system to assure supply within 48 hrs

According to a Metrowater official, the updated online booking system would come into effect on July 29. “For example, if the booking is made on July 29, the consumer can choose the date of supply either July 30 or July 31. The number of trips that could be made in each area has been ascertained and booking is restricted accordingly,” the official added.

As per the new system, multi-storeyed buildings can book only 9,000 litres, 12,000 litres and 16,000 litres, while residents of non-multi-storeyed buildings can book 3,000 litres, 6,000 litres and 9,000 litres. Residents who have no access to the Internet can book lorry water through 044 45674567 for 3,000 litres and payment would be ‘cash on delivery’. “Residents should pay water charges online while booking through net banking, credit or debit cards. To prevent server breakdowns, different time slots have been fixed for different categories,” the official explained.

The online booking window for 3,000 litres would function between 6 am to 6 pm while phone booking can be done between 9 am to 6 pm. Cost of a 3,000-litre-load is Rs 400. Online booking for 6,000 litres (Rs 475) and 9,000 litres (Rs 700) would start at 8 am and 10 am respectively. For 12,000 litres (Rs 900) and 16,000 litres (Rs 1,200), consumers can book from 12 noon till 6 pm.

However, the residents cannot cancel the bookings once they are made.
