Protest affects train service for 3 hours

Around 7.30 pm, the special EMU announced for Athi Varadhar festival departed from Chengalpattu. But without any announcement, the train halted at Walajahbad railway station for more than 20 minutes. Following that, angry commuters staged a protest. They alleged that the trains were not operated as per schedule and that they were running late.

Later, the Beach-Thirumalpur EMU was halted at Paalur railway station, leading to protests by angry commuters there, too.

Meanwhile, the Beach-Kancheepuram EMU arrived at the first platform of the Chengalpattu station. The commuters also blocked the first and second platform, and protested against the Railways for not operating the train on schedule. They also charged that trains at night were often being cancelled without any prior announcement.

As both platforms at Chengalpattu station was blocked by the commuters, the Chengalpattu-Beach and Beach-Chengalpattu services were affected. Railway officials along with the RPF and the GRP arrived at the spot and convinced the protestors and promised to operate the trains on time.

Following the assurance, they gave up the protest at all the three places and the service resumed at 10.20 pm.
