Man looking for a Corporation job gets cheated of Rs 50,000
A man was cheated of Rs 50,000 by a man who promised him a job in Chennai Corporation. The victim was asked to come to the Ripon Building, the headquarters of the city Corporation, by the conman, where he collected the money and disappeared.
According to the police, an unidentified man approached Govindaraj pretending to be a Corporation employee at the civic body headquarters. He told Govindaraj that there were vacancies at the Chennai Corporation and he could arrange a job for him with a salary of Rs 28,000 per month.
Believing him, Govindaraj sought help for securing a job for his nephew Pratap, who lives in Ambattur. The man then told Govindaraj that he would have to pay him Rs 50,000 for it and asked him to bring the money to Ripon Building on Thursday.
Following this Pratap brought the money to Ripon Building complex on Thursday. The man collected the cash near the e-Seva Centre and took him to the second floor of the annex building. There, Pratap was asked to sit in front of an office and the conman told him that he would return after meeting an official. But when the man did not resurface after a long time, Pratap realised that he was duped.
He then lodged a complaint with the police. Officers are now trying to hunt down the accused.
