Airport ends its 10-minutes free parking system
Revamping the parking policy, the Chennai airport authorities have decided to discontinue the 10-minute restriction for free parking from Monday night. There will not be any time restriction for dropping passengers and luggage, but the vehicles cannot be stationed at the transit area after that.

According to a release from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) announcing the change in policy, those violating this rule will have to pay a stiff fine – four times the parking charge for 0-30 minutes’ slab. This is to avoid congestion in front of the terminal, the statement added.
The new system will be implemented using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards, which will be issued to all vehicles entering the airport. It must be returned at the exit booth while leaving the airport.
Only private vehicles and AAl authorised car rental operators (currently Ola and Aviation Express) will be allowed to pick up passengers from in front of the terminal building for free. All other vehicles with yellow registration boards will have to pick up passengers from the parking area by paying a parking fee – a minimum of Rs 40 for 30 minutes for cars.
Parking fee will be charged from all vehicles entering the designated parking areas, thestatement added.
