    Gold worth Rs 50L seized at airport

    The Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 50 lakh and detained four men who arrived from Colombo at Chennai airport on Thursday.

    When the officers were checking the passengers who arrived from Colombo, they intercepted Maharoof (39) and Manoj Dass (28) from Chennai and Ahamed Kabeer (48) and Kalandar Bahurudeen (28) from Ramanathapuram. The officials took all the four to separate rooms for a check and they found gold in the form of rubbery spread was concealed in their rectum. The gold was weighing about 1,365 grams and worth Rs 48.5 lakh. The officials also recovered two gold cut bits, which weighed about 40 grams and valued Rs 1.5 lakh, along with 20 used laptops worth one lakh from the check-in baggage of Ahamed Kabeer. The officials seized the gold and the laptops and detained all of them for further inquiry.
