Police foil murder attempt in Adyar, arrest three
The city police thwarted a murder plotted by three men in Adyar on Tuesday and seized three machetes from them.

On Tuesday night, a patrol team intercepted a speeding car at a signal in Adyar and on suspicion insisted on checking the vehicle. They found the weapons concealed there. The men were taken to the police station and they revealed during interrogation that they were on their way to kill a goon by the name of Pallu Madhan, who had earlier been an aide of another gangster Binu Pappachan.
The accused have been identified as Jeeva, Raja and Venkatesan. Jeeva and Raja already have an attempted-murder case pending against them in Teynampet, all three of them were handed over to the Teynampet police. When contacted, the Teynampet police said that the accused would be remanded in judicial custody.Â
Binu detained under Goondas Act
Gangster Binu Papachan (52) from Kolathur, who was arrested in the city two weeks ago, has been detained under Goondas Act with four others. Binu — who had been absconding after he was released on bail — was arrested again by the Mangadu police for threatening a businessman on June 19. The others who were detained under Goondas Act have been identified as M Madhan (47) from Washermanpet, T Adhikesavan (34) from Washermanpet and D Bhaskar (23) from Pallavaram.Â
