Madhya Pradesh duo held for series of thefts
Two men from Madhya Pradesh, who allegedly indulged in a series of burglaries in the city, were nabbed by Tiruverkadu police, who seized 69 sovereigns from them.

They were identified as I Richu (45) and L Rakesh (26). A hunt has been launched for a suspect.
Police held two of them in Ayanambakkam when they tried to flee on Thursday night. They also seized a crowbar, two mobile phones, two wrist watches, a ring and two silver anklets.
Investigations revealed that the gang carried out burglaries in about five houses in and around Tiruverkadu. Based on their statements, the stolen jewels were retrieved before they were remanded in judicial custody.
Woman held for conning house owner
Red Hills police have arrested a woman who cheated her house owner of 18 sovereigns. The jewels were retrieved from the accused, R Sangamithra (27) of Padinallur, who was remanded in custody on Friday.
Sangamithra, who recently moved into the house of R Rajathi (45) for rent, allegedly told the latter that her elder son Raja’s marriage was being delayed due to some astrological problem. She was asked to offer jewels for a special puja. Rajathi handed over her jewels, including even her mangalsutra, and Rs 1 lakh.
But when Raja confronted Sangamithra, she denied receiving cash or jewellery. Sangamithra reportedly admitted her crime during questioning.
Police on lookout for burglars in Nolambur
Police are on the lookout for burglars who escaped with 25 sovereigns from a software engineer’s house in Nolambur on Friday night. When Vinothkumar returned from Vellore where he had gone to visit a temple, he found the door broken and jewels burgled. In another incident in Nolambur, a businessman lost 10 sovereigns and silver worth Rs 1 lakh.
