At Tiruvottiyur, a 27-year-old man identified as Saravanan was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year old girl. Saravanan, a married man, had befriended the school girl from his neighbourhood, whom he allegedly sexually assaulted on the promise of marriage. After the girl informed her parents about the incident, they lodged a complaint at the Ennore all-women police station after which Saravanan was arrested.
In another incident, Anand alias Poongavanam, a 20-year-old resident of Villivakkam, was arrested for allegedly sexually exploiting a 17-year-old girl after promising to marry her. During the absence of her family members, Anand took her to a secluded place and sexually assaulted. But later he started avoiding her. Based on a complaint from her parents, he was arrested by Villivakkam all-women police station.
In the third incident, Secretariat all-women police station arrested Karunakaran (24), a history-sheeter for alleged sexual assault on a 16-year-old girl promising to marry her. Karunakaran, a resident of Tamil Nadu Housing Board quarters in ICF, is allegedly involved in a murder and few other cases. All the three were booked under Pocso Act and were remanded in judicial custody.
