Even as the city and suburbs have been receiving sporadic bouts of conventional rain for the past few days, often surpassing expectations, the water situation remains grim as there has been zero increase in the water levels of city reservoirs.

“Road Wetting (2 mins) spells associated with Sea breeze may occur here & there. With low pressure forming we should be content with these brisk rains from the sea breeze associated with towering low clouds. The city lake levels, though, have gone down below the 2017 storage levels,” tweeted weather blogger Pradeep John on Friday.

However, rainfall has brought respite from the heat over the week with maximum and minimum temperatures sticking to the mid 30s and mid 20s respectively.

“The widespread rainfall coupled with light to moderate rainfall in various parts of the State is likely to bring down the temperatures further,” an official at Regional Meteorological Centre here said. The series of rainy days is to continue next month in the city. While the city has received 55.8 mm of rainfall in June so far, July is expected to get 103.8 mm, according to weathermen.
