Duo attacks jeweller, walks away with rings
Two men beat up a jeweller after entering his shop disguised as customers and escaped with two rings weighing three sovereigns in Vyasarpadi on Monday.
The police said the incident happened in the evening at Vyasarpadi market when the owner, Santhosh, was at the shop, Vinayaka Jewellers.
Two men entered the shop in the guise of buying rings and asked Santhosh to show different designs. While one of them was wearing a cap, the other person had covered his face with a handkerchief.
As Santhosh showed the rings to the duo, one of them put a ring in his trousers and walked away. As Santhosh pulled away the tray of rings from the other man, he started attacking Santhosh and managed to take a ring from the drawer before fleeing the shop.
A minor employee in the shop tried to secure them but did not succeed. Later, Santhosh lodged a complaint at the Vyasarpadi police station and a hunt has been launched for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage retrieved from the shop.
