“Considering the request of the passengers, we have decided to operate the long-distance buses, except for the Premium and the Highway rider vehicles, through Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, Alandur, Chormepet and Tambaram from 10 am to 4.30 pm and 9.30 pm to 7 am,” the transport corporation said in a statement.

The buses which were plying via the city road were diverted to take Chennai Bypass at Maduravoyal to facilitate the Chennai Metro I Rail work along the Jawaharlal Nehru Salai and the GST Road. With the work on the first phase of the Metro completed, there were demands from the passenger to operate the buses via the old routes.

Now, the intercity buses operated to places like Tiruchy, Madurai, Pudukottai, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil, Sengottai, Thoothukudi, Thiruvananthapuram, Salem and Coimbatore would be operated through the city roads. The move will help several passengers residing in the city as they need not travel to Koyambedu bus terminus or Tambaram to boardthe buses.
