Woman ‘govt staffer’ steals Rs 53k from house
A woman, who claimed to be a government employee, entered a house and stole Rs 53,000 in Raja Annamalaipuram. The police have launched a hunt for her based on a photograph taken from CCTV footage.

The incident happened on Tuesday when the victim Rajeshwari was alone at home. A middle-aged woman, who knocked on the door, allegedly introduced herself as a government employee to Rajeshwari. The suspect also claimed that she could help Rajeshwari make corrections in her Aadhaar card. Believing her, Rajeshwari shared the Aadhaar card details and rushed into the kitchen for some work.
When she returned a few minutes later, she found her handbag on the table missing. As she had Rs 53,000 in cash in the bag, she immediately lodged a complaint at the Abhiramapurampolice station. Kotturpuram Assistant Commissioner Sudarshan said that they have managed to get the image of the woman from the CCTV cameras and trying to find out if she is a repeat offender.
