It said it needed time to enquire into those who were suspended or dismissed from the association for various reasons and have no right to vote. ‘’Since it may take some time, the election process has been stopped till then and a decision on it will be taken later,” it added. Sixty-one members of Nadigar Sangam, who voted in the previous elections, were denied voting rights and they lodged a complaint with the Registrar of Societies seeking justice. Responding to the notice issued by the Registrar, the Nadigar Sangam said notices were issued to 61 members seeking explanation and four reminders were also sent to them.
Since they did not reply, their voting rights were cancelled as per the decision of the Executive Committee. ‘Pandavar Ani’, the incumbent team headed by actor Vishal and Nasser, alleged that it was a deliberate attempt to stop elections. Poochi Murugan, who is contestingthe elections on behalf of Pandavar Ani, termed the decision anti-democratic. ‘’There is an attempt to purposefully cancel elections to stop them from winning,’ he added.More on P8
