Lorry with 50 new fridges catches fire at Madipakkam

The lorry with 50 brand new refrigerators was heading towards a private showroom in Medavakkam. It caught fire on St Thomas Mount-Medavakkam Road when nearing Madipakkam.

The driver and cleaner stopped the lorry and informed the fire department immediately. The Velachery fire and rescue team rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

The Madipakkam police who arrived at the spot began to take out the refrigerators with the help of the fire and recuse team and the public.

The police managed to recover 30 refrigerators while the rest were gutted in the fire. Meanwhile, the driver and the cleaner of the lorry escaped from the scene.

The Madipakkam police have registered a case and they are now trying to find why the crew escaped leaving the load and the vehicle behind. The police took custody of the lorry and the goods and are trying to identify its original owners.

The police are also investigating if there was any foul play that triggered the fire mishap.
