According to sources, Justice T Meena Kumari, chairperson of the Commission, has directed DGP Srilakshmi Prasad to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and submit a report within eight weeks. In addition, she has also asked the secretary of the Public Department to file a report within six weeks.

Vallasaru, a 20-year-old history-sheeter who was allegedly involved in a murder when he was only 17 years, was shot dead by a police team on Saturday. Police claimed he and two others had attacked two constables with a long knife, leaving them with deep cuts, adding that they were forced to open fire when Vallarasu tried to escape after attacking other police personnel.

However, refusing to believe the police’s version, his father Samikanni, a labourer, alleged that it was a pre-planned murder. His son was killed in someone’s interest, he said, claiming that the youth had been leading a reformed life for the last two years. “The police have received money from gangsters and made my son a scapegoat. I will take the matter up with the help of politicians to seek justice,” he had said.
