    At a time when most parts of the city are under severe water crisis, the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has appointed special officers to receive water-related complaints.

    According to a CMWSSB statement, superintendent engineer level officials for each of the 15 areas in Chennai were appointed and the decision was taken at a meeting on Saturday to review the water situation, where the boards managing director TN Hariharan presided.


    “Presently, the Metrowater is supplying 525 million litres per day with water drawn from desalination plants, Veeranam Lake, abandoned quarries and borewells. We are conducting weekly meetings to review the water situation,” the statement added.

    In a state of dismay, the four major lakes – Cholavaram, Poondi, Chembarambakkam and Redhills have only 0.25 per cent water of their total storage of 11,257 mcft. Of the four lakes, Cholavaram, Chembarambakkam and Redhills lakes had gone completely dry.
