A 30-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a lab technician of a corporate hospital on OMR minutes before she was to undergo surgery. Police arrested the man though the hospital raised suspicions about the allegation.
The victim, a West Bengal native who works in Bengaluru, had to undergo a knee surgery after meeting with an accident. The surgery was fixed for June 6.
After she was given anaesthesia, Dilli Babu (21) stood behind her and allegedly touched her inappropriately thinking she was unconscious. This happened even as doctors were performing a surgery in the same room, the police said. However, the woman was conscious as the anaesthesia was given only for the lower part of her body.
When the woman complained to the hospital authorities, they allegedly refused to believe her.
The woman lodged a complaint online which was forwarded to the Thoraipakkam police.
The hospital initially alleged that the woman was a psychiatric patient.
However, it later handed over the man to the police.
Dilli Babu of Gudiyattam near Vellore, was arrested under Sections 354A of the IPC and 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Harassment of Women Act, and was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
