Students take oath to segregate garbage
To sensitise school students on source segregation, the Greater Chennai Corporation conducted an awareness campaign in a Chennai Corporation school on Wednesday. The students of Chennai Girls Higher Secondary School in Perambur took an oath to segregate garbage in their homes.

The civic body has started several measures to reduce the amount of garbage dumped in landfills recently, including the promotion of source segregation and composting of biodegradable waste. The Corporation also floated tenders inviting private agencies and NGOs to provide waste processing and recycling services. In order to emphasise composting of garbage generated by bulk waste generators such as multi-storeyed apartments, hotels and commercial establishments, the civic body had conducted a meeting with the owners of such establishments on Monday.
