The deceased, Kajal, a B Com graduate and her boyfriend, Sumer Singh (23), a marketing firm employee, were in a relationship since Class 8. “They separated a few years ago due to parents’ opposition and Kajal got engaged to another person from Surat. However, she changed her mind and got back together with Sumer Singh recently,” police said.

On Monday evening, Kajal left her home claiming to collect her transfer certificate from college. She then checked into a lodge on Meeran Sahib First Street in Triplicane along with Sumer Singh. When they didn’t open the door on Tuesday morning, the staff opened the room and found them unconscious.

The Triplicane police went to the spot and found the woman dead. Her body was sent to Omandurar GH for autopsy. Sumer Singh was rushed to RGGGH for treatment. A case of suspicious death has been registered and further inquiry is on.

Meanwhile, the decomposed body of a 40-year-old man was recovered from a lodge in Periamet while his mother was rescued in an unconscious state on Monday evening. The man was identified as Vaithiya Subramani from Coimbatore.

Police said that the mother-son duo had been staying at a lodge on EVR Salai since May 30 and had mentioned in the register they were in the city for medical reasons. The staff said that they last saw them on June 7. On Monday morning when a foul smell emanated from the room, the door was opened. Vaithiya Subramani’s body was found in decomposed state, while his mother was lying unconscious. She was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital where she is undergoing treatment.

Peramiet police said both had consumed sleeping pills and added that they were hoping to get more details after the woman recovers consciousness.
